International Carbon Alliance Ltd (ICAL)
There are many established carbon tools used to evaluate carbon baselines on farm, on livestock farms, these tools have identified feed and manure management as the main areas of Green House Gas potential in virtually all systems.
ICAL uses existing accepted methodology to calculate carbon(e) potential such as that recommended by the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations, European Commission and USDA. ICAL nutritionist reformulates the diet, of equivalent nutritional value, using low carbon ingredients.
The International Taskforce on Voluntary Carbon Markets guidance is followed. The farmer accumulates carbon in creation and growing of produce, only when that produce is harvested can that carbon be certified. Should the farmer reduce or avoid carbon in the process of production, a credit certificate can be issued.
Carbon certificates are per tonne of carbon(e) and certificate numbers are registered individually, this allows the carbon to be tracked and extinguished by the buyer within the expiry date.
